Most of you know I have two beautiful and healthy children, but most of you don’t know that our first daughter, Madeline, was still born at 22 ½ weeks. She was days away from being born as a preemie. This time of year is particularly difficult for us. October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, and November is the month in which we lost Madeline; she would have been 7 this year. Because of our loss I have become part of a community that understands and helps others with these hardships. I have a friend who's preemie baby has been in the hospital over 2 weeks. I think we all have either been through this or know someone who has.
When the County of San Diego announced the Battle of the Bands Benefit Concert and asked for submissions, I submitted Unpaved Highway under my division and Brent, as the bassist, submitted under his division. I was first selected to join my division's band; then, Unpaved Highway was selected to represent Brent’s division. I am the only person performing for more than one band. I can say it is interesting competing against myself, and you know I am giving it my all. I am putting in a lot of hours practicing and rehearsing.
I know you want to help, so here are a few ways you can open your heart.
1. Donate what you earn in 1 hour, or at least $10 online. We donated $25 to get the fundraising started: https://www.crowdrise.com/teampsg/fundraiser/ericnedelman. Part of the friendly competition is who raises the most money. Since I am on two teams, I am fundraising with Team the Public Safety Group (PSG), as they selected Unpaved Highway to represent them.
2. Help to promote the event and fundraising efforts to your friends and family. Help us make the ask for $10 and share our posts on Facebook from http://facebook.com/unpavedhighway.
3. Take a long lunch and come to the concert on November 20th from 11:30-1:00 at the County Operations Center (outside of the Chambers Room at 5520 Overland Avenue, San Diego, CA 92123). At the event we will be collecting any sized donations and I will be giving away free downloads of Hung in Custody for any donation to PSG. There will be 5 acts performing 2 songs each. The top two most cheered for acts compete in the final battle for bragging rights. My hope is that they will both be of the bands I am representing, but I can't do that without you.
Thank you for your love and support!

Unpaved Highway directly raised $215 during the March of Dimes Benefit concert. Online our team raised the most money ($620). The other band Eric performed with, Dona and the Servicemen, won the trophy for the division that raised the most money. Overall, the two bands Eric played in raised nearly $2,000. Here is an article about the tremendous success of the fundraiser:
